Polyamory and Ethical Non-Monogamous Relationships

This presentation covers the nature of ethically non-monogamous relationships and looks at polyamory specifically. It provides educational information on what these relationships are, what complications these populations face within the community, and how we as clinicians can assist and work within these populations.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participations will be able to describe what ethically non-monogamous relationships consist of and how polyamory fits in that mold.
  2. Participants will learn about the various barriers to treatment for this community.
  3. Participants will learn how to name the necessary skills that ethically non-monogamous practicing individuals need and search for assistance with.
  4. Participants will learn how to identify ethical principles for therapists providing therapy to ethically non-monogamous practicing individuals.

Amanda Swisher, LPC-IT

Speaker Information

Amanda, LPC-IT, graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2022 with my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. After graduating from St. Norbert College with a BA in Psychology in 2013, she began working as a mental health professional within several CBRFs, starting in Chicago. In 2014 she moved back to Green Bay and started working with various populations, including at-risk youth, individuals with schizophrenia, and various mood disorders. While in Green Bay, Amanda began her internship and residential experience at Kimberley Welk & Associates Family Therapy Center. Currently, she is working at Lighthouse Counseling Center in Green Bay WI. She is continuing her work with individuals, couples, and within the school based mental health system.
