WAMFT’S Transition

AAMFT’s Bylaws Change
The passage of the 2016 AAMFT bylaws vote called for the reorganization of AAMFT such that it would become a single, consolidated organization. As a result, state-level divisions of the organization, as we have known them, are in the process of dissolving.

WAMFT Applied to AAMFT to Become a “Geographic Interest Group”
The Wisconsin Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (WAMFT) applied to become a Geographical Interest Network (GIN) with AAMFT, which has been approved and become effective in Spring 2018. Membership-at-Large Voted YES to Dissolve and Transition into the Wisconsin Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (WAMFT) GIN. We will maintain our name as is since many state statutes and the administrative code relating to the practice of Marriage and Family Therapy in Wisconsin includes the language "AAMFT" and "WAMFT". This honors our history, the work of many boards past and maintains our visibility and strength as a profession in Wisconsin.

The Board of Directors Voted to Dissolve
The Board of Directors of WAMFT voted “YES” to dissolve WAMFT and it's prior structure and transition to the Wisconsin Association of Marriage and Family Therapy GIN (WAMFT), as set forth in the Plan of Dissolution of WAMFT during our December 2017 board meeting. The membership also approved the dissolution of WAMFT and the Board’s plan for dissolution and distribution of assets to transition to the Geographical Interest Network of AAMFT in the Spring of 2018.

A Transition Toward the Future
To best position WAMFT and for future success in support of the MFT profession, it was decided to dissolve WAMFT and create the WAMFT GIN. WAMFT is focused on serving Wisconsin MFTs, promoting Marriage and Family Therapy in the State of Wisconsin, and building a strong foundation for our profession.
