AAMFT Code of Ethics and Several Applications of Lesser Discussed Codes

This presentation will address some of the lesser discussed AAMFT Ethical Codes; specifically surrounding impairment, dual roles, conflicts of interest, and preparation for practice changes. We live in a changing world and with that, our codes must remain gray in order to be broad enough to cover new issues we have yet to realize will be problematic. So let’s step into the gray and start talking about some of these topics that tend to get overlooked or minimized.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to identify several codes within the AAMFT Code of Ethics.
  2. Participants will learn how to rethink what may be an ethical dilemma and how to resolve it.
  3. Participants will be able to define how to apply the AAMFT Codes of Ethics within their agencies, with their coworkers, and with their clients.

Dr. Amanda Anderson, LMFT

Speaker Information

Dr. Amanda Anderson is currently an owner and therapist at Oshkosh Marriage and Family Therapy Center, LLC. She received her PhD at National University from the Marriage & Family Sciences program. Dr. Anderson is also an AAMFT approved supervisor which enabled her to transform her practice into a local training facility for MFTs and LPCs. Dr. Anderson's passion for supervision extends beyond her work and has lead her to being an AAMFT Leadership Symposium Certificate Awardee and mentor to an awardee this year in 2024. She has been a volunteer with WAMFT since 2013 when she started as a student volunteer on the Conference Committee; then became a Co-Chair then Chair for the Educational Subcommittee. Following this she became the Chair-Elect of WAMFT and the Chair for WAMFT with her term ending in December 2025. Her research interests for her doctoral program was in video game collaborative play among family members. As a practitioner, her clients tend to have anxiety, depression, chronic life long trauma, are neurodivergent, are within the LGBTQIA+ community, identify as polyamorous, and partake in the furry and kink communities.
