Benefits of Membership

Membership Includes:

ALAMFT Board Members

Members of ALAMFT receive the service and advocacy of a four-person volunteer board who manage all aspects of the state organization. The ALAMFT Board creates and implements programming for its association members and responds to emerging needs of our profession-at-large by employing committees and task forces as warranted. Our state association is guided by our contract with AAMFT and their accompanying policies as well as licensure rules and regulations set forth by ABEMFT. Members of the Board are elected by the members of ALAMFT and serve their terms on a rotating schedule. The Board meets at least eight times a year, either in-person or virtually. Click here to view the list of the current ALAMFT Board members.

Members of ALAMFT have the opportunity to review and vote on the upcoming leadership of ALAMFT in the Fall of each year.

Leadership

Members of ALAMFT have the opportunity to serve in a leadership role by nominating themselves for open positions on the ALAMFT Leadership Board or volunteering to serve on a committee or task force.

Each Chair-Elect of ALAMFT will enroll in AAMFT's Leadership Certificate Program to complete before or during their service as Chair.

Advocacy

ALAMFT advocates on behalf of all Alabama Marriage and Family Therapists regardless of membership status in AAMFT or ALAMFT.

  • ALAMFT sends at least one current board member to all ABEMFT meetings. ALAMFT aims to understand licensure board decisions, advocate for our Alabama MFTs, and collaborate on changes that benefit both the profession and the public.
  • ALAMFT tracks all legislation in the state that may beneficially or adversely impact the practice of the MFT profession in Alabama.
  • ALAMFT has worked with a lobbyist in recent years to accomplish goals such as the ability of Alabama MFTs to legally diagnose and treat.
  • Currently, ALAMFT is pursuing advocacy/legislative efforts to eliminate barriers for Alabama MFTs with Alabama Medicaid and Alabama BCBS.
    • When a need for legislative action arises, ALAMFT applies for "Foundational Funding" from our parent organization, AAMFT to ensure legislative efforts are supported. We received this funding in 2021, 2022, and 2023 which covered our lobbyist fee.

ALAMFT Website

ALAMFT maintains online information available every day, 24 hours a day. This information is updated throughout the year and can answer most questions after office hours and on weekends. When logged into their account ALAMFT Members have access to website information that is not public.

Membership dues help support this website being updated throughout the year as updates arise.

Education

ALAMFT advertises CE opportunities on our website and through email announcements to current ALAMFT members.

ALAMFT Conference

ALAMFT offers an annual conference to aid in the fulfillment of the required continuing education units needed for licensure or renewal of licensure. Each year ALAMFT's conference overview will either include ethics or diagnose and treat CE hours.

Substantial discounts are given to Members of ALAMFT for all ALAMFT hosted CE events.

ALAMFT Business Meeting

Annually, ALAMFT hosts a business meeting to share a report of the prior year, as well as our plans and budget for the upcoming year. The purpose of the meeting is to aid members in their understanding of the work being done by ALAMFT.

ALAMFT members are encouraged to ask questions, voice concerns, and participate in this meeting.

Additionally, the ALAMFT Board sends emails to members throughout the year with news and updates, as well as an end of the year report.

Supervision

ALAMFT maintains online information regarding current supervisors in our state. We offer a map of the state that features all AAMFT and ABEMFT Supervisors that live/work in Alabama. This map is updated quarterly and reflects which supervisors are taking new supervisees and information about those that offer telesupervision.

The ALAMFT Board is able to connect students and newly licensed MFTs with potential supervisors through these resources.

Students/Associates

ALAMFT aims to support students and new clinicians as they enter the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. All ALAMFT events are offered to students at a discounted registration rate. Many resources are offered on our website and the ALAMFT Board is available to address requests from students and new clinicians via email.
