Elizabeth Gervais, MA. M.Ed., LMFTA

Maladaptive Fawning, Masking, & Manipulation: A Neuroaffirming Systemic Perspective on Healing & Forming Authentic Relationships (Friday December 12th, 8:30am-11:30am CT)
Elizabeth is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapy Associate at Solid Ground Counseling Center in Madison, AL, under the supervision of Rachel Sullivan, LMFT, and participates as an active board member of the Neuro Affirmative Autism Resource Center in Madison, AL. She has an extensive background in education and advocacy work. Her passion lies in helping others gain a better understanding of establishing more constructive conversations around working with neurodivergent families, where all members of the systems feel valued and respected. As an AuDHD, therapist and experienced teacher, she brings a unique blend of understanding for those with neurocognitive conditions, with an extensive knowledge of how to scaffold support, assess potential, and differentiate interventions for a variety of client bases.
In this session, Elizabeth will help us learn how to take an ethical and clinical approach to working with neurodivergent families. By examining a range of case studies, we will strive to incorporate dual empathy into neuroaffirming ethical case conceptualization and clinical applications for neuroaffirmative practices across the lifespan. Specifically, the session will focus on the intergenerational interaction patterns and perspectives on maladaptive fawning, masking, and manipulation with the goal of supporting the system as they transition into forming authentic, securely attached relationships.
