To maintain the highest quality systemic/relational supervisors in the field, AAMFT requires that the Approved Supervisors take a comprehensive refresher course prior to the renewal of their designation. This 6-hour course is designed specifically to meet that requirement, and to keep practitioners up-to-date on the practice of relational/systemic clinical supervision. This course will include case examples, didactic and interactional instruction methods. It will focus on current resources available to supervisors, management of ethical and legal issues likely to arise during supervision, utilization of supervision contracts, cultural competence in supervision and therapy, and discussion of the current AAMFT Approved Supervisor requirements

The overall purposes of this refresher course are:

  • To provide continuing education to supervisors
  • To provide an opportunity for supervisors to interact with each other
  • To assist Approved Supervisor mentors in their responsibilities

Learning Objectives:

  • Based on the content of this session, I am able to identify and understand the current supervision literature and the process of developing and the elements of supervision contracts.

  • Based on the content of this session, I am able to understand ethical and legal issues that arise in supervision and supervision mentoring and the current standards for becoming an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

  • Based on the content of this session, I am able to develop an understanding of the significance of diversity, equity and inclusion, especially as it relates to marriage and family therapy supervisor training.
