Sibling Therapy: Hidden Resource for Family Therapists (VIRTUAL)

When:  Feb 9, 2024 from 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM (MT)
Associated with  AAMFT Arizona

Presented by: Dr. karen Gail Lewis MSW, Ed.D.

This workshop will help participants understand how the early childhood relationship can be considered a laboratory, or “first marriage,” for adult love relationships.  Then, through the process of “sibling transference,” your clients may recreate their early relationships -- falling back on what is familiar, from their first marriage.  They know what to expect; there are no surprises.

Participants will learn a theoretical framework for thinking about siblings as an important element in your clinical work; you will learn to assess for a sibling connection with your individual, couple, and family clients and how to help your clients make the sibling connection to their presenting problem.  Then, you will learn how to help clients use the new insight of the sibling connection to their presenting problems.

Dr. Karen Gail Lewis, marriage and family therapist for over 50 years, is author of numerous books and professional articles on marriage, gender communication, single women, and adult siblings.  Her newest book is Sibling Therapy: The Ghosts from Childhood That Haunt Your Clients’ Love and Work.  She has been active in AAMFT both locally and nationally. For years she has presented nationally and internationally.
