Conveniently located in central Oklahoma, the master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Central Oklahoma prepares students to sit for the national MFT exam and apply for candidature as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as dictated by Oklahoma's State Board of Behavioral Health (BBHL). Courses are administered online and on campus in the evenings and include a 600-hour practicum which provides hands-on experience and research. This program has been reviewed and approved by the BBHL.
The program requires a minimum of 45 graduate hours, and facilitates students' knowledge and skill in systemic theories, therapy with couples and families, therapy with individuals and youth, ethical and professional issues, cultural sensitivity, assessment, and more while maintaining a strong systemic lens. Students are encouraged to attend and participate in state and national organizations such as AAMFT, OKAMFT, AFTA, NCFR, and OKCFR. To enhance the growth and development of students, UCO faculty maintain strong, supportive relationships with trainees as they advance their clinical competence.
