Update- 12/12/2022
IAMFT has filed all necessary paperwork with AAMFT and with the state of Indiana to transition all accounts over to AAMFT. Additionally, our lobbying firm, Dant Advocacy, has completed the RFP posted by AAMFT to remain our lobbying firm for 2023.
Update- 5/20/2022
The IAMFT membership vote passed with a yes vote of 44 and a no vote of 5. The required 10% quorum and 2/3 majority vote were both met, so the vote to dissolve the IAMFT nonprofit status was approved. The IAMFT Board has communicated the outcome to AAMFT and is awaiting information from them as to next steps. However, the IAMFT Board has also voted to contract with a local lawyer who has experience working with nonprofit dissolutions so that our organization makes this transition smoothly and legally. Within the state of Indiana, we have to complete State Form 39080 "Articles of Dissolution of a Domestic Nonprofit Corporation", which will trigger the state's process for nonprofit dissolution. We have completed this form and have had our lawyer review it and approve its submission. Now we await next steps from the state and from AAMFT.

2022 Special Called VOTE of IAMFT Membership - Dissolution Survey Description
The IAMFT Board of Directors is asking the Membership for a vote for Dissolution of IAMFT as a Nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization. According to our bylaws (https://inamft.org/ByLaws), the vote for dissolution must be approved by the board, which occurred on 1/22/22. Next, we must have a membership vote, approved by two-thirds vote of the voting members voting by ballot returned within thirty (30) days of the date by which members can reasonably be presumed to have received the ballot. We will open the voting on 4/1/22 and will have an open survey voting via our website that will remain open until 4/30/22. To meet a quorum we must have a minimum 10% of the membership vote.
The vote to dissolve IAMFT’s nonprofit status does not mean that IAMFT is going away. Instead, we will move to a Geographic Interest Network under the umbrella of AAMFT. Our goal is to maintain the priorities of our membership, which has been to provide quality continuing education and connection opportunities through conferences and other creative connecting points, as well as strong communication regarding the legislative impact of bills related to the work that we do as Marriage and Family Therapists.
To best position MFTs in the State of Indiana for future success in support of the MFT profession, the IAMFT Board of Directors recommends the membership vote to approve the dissolution of the 501(c)(6) from which the Indiana Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (IAMFT) has operated and the Board of Director’s plan to move IAMFT to an Interest Network under the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
