2024 Legislative Update
Greetings fellow Marriage and Family Therapists,
The 2024 legislative session has recently wrapped up here in Indiana. This year was a "short session," so completed more quickly than last year, but it was still a very active couple of months for IAMFT's advocacy team which included members of the IAMFT board, volunteers, and Dant Advocacy. During this session, our advocacy team was able to promote the inclusion of LMFTs into HB 1138, provide helpful testimony before various committees, and provide a letter to Governor Holcomb encouraging him to sign the bill into law. HB 1138 passed both houses and become House Enrolled Act 1138 which was successfully signed by Governor Holcomb on March 12, 2024. HEA 1138 provides MFT students an opportunity to take the licensure exam during their final term of schooling. Additionally, the bill would allow up to 100% of post-graduate clinical supervision to be completed virtually. Previously only 50% of supervision was allowed to be virtual. Our hope is that this bill will continue to ethically streamline the process to full licensure so Marriage and Family Therapists can continue providing quality care to the couples, families, and individuals we serve.
For those of you on our email list, you should have received the final bill track from our partners at Dant Advocacy, which gives a summary of all the bills from this past legislative session.
We want to Thank you for being a member of IAMFT. Your IAMFT membership dues makes it possible for IAMFT to secure the services of Dant Advocacy and allows us to continue representing our profession well in the legislative process.
Thank you!
Adam D. Carroll, LMFT, CSAYC
