The 2025 Medical Family Therapy Intensive Conference

Overview of the Conference:

This conference will be the first Medical Family Therapy Intensive Conference sponsored by the Family Therapists in Healthcare TIN. The conference is an opportunity for clinicians, researchers, educators, administrators, and other professionals to discuss cutting-edge topics in the field. The University of Minnesota will host this inaugural event and showcase some of their work across their integrated care sites. Expert speakers in Medical Family Therapy will talk about the progression of the field across the conference, with a live family interview in the morning of Day 2. Students will have the opportunity to present their posters at the conference while networking with mentors and professionals.

Day 1 (July 18th)

4:00pm: Introduction to the Family Therapists in Healthcare TIN

4:30pm-5:15pm: An Overview of Integrated Care from the University of Minnesota

5:15pm-6:30pm: Opening Plenary: “Back to the Future Part I: A Review of Medical Family Therapy Over the Years” (Bill Doherty and Mac Baird)

July 19th (Day 2)

8:30am-9:00am: Registration and Breakfast

9:00am-10:30 am: Morning Plenary: “Back to the Future Part II (The Second Generation): The Evolution of Medical Family Therapy” 

10:30am-11:45am: The Live Family Interview: A Collaborative Case of Navigating Chronic Illness

11:45am-1:00pm: Lunch: Poster Session and Program Showcase

1:00pm-3:15pm: Afternoon Breakouts: Clinical Track, Research/Scholarship Track, Supervision Track, Workforce Development Track

3:30pm-4:30pm: Closing Plenary: “Back to the Future Part III (The Third Generation): The Current State of Medical Family Therapy”

Format:

This is a hybrid conference, where virtual participants can attend the whole conference! In-person attendance can hold a maximum of 60 people.  When the in-person capacity has been met, we will close down this option on the registration portal.  Poster presenters MUST be present live at the conference.
