Access MFTs Bills Filed in Illinois

Today marks a significant step forward in Illinois as Senator Javier Cervantes and Representative LaPointe have cross-filed bills (SB 3211) and House (HB 5246) supporting the Access MFTs initiative in their respective chambers. This legislation aims to simplify licensure processes for Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) from other states, improving access to essential mental health services across Illinois.

The Access MFTs initiative underscores a commitment to addressing mental health care disparities and recognizing the valuable contributions of MFTs in providing holistic therapy.

Additionally, as the bill progresses, a need may arise for volunteers interested in participating in advocacy – either from home or in person at the capital – to share with your legislators how support for MFTs can positively impact your local communities. If you want to get involved, please complete the Contact Us Form or sign up for AAMFT’s Family TEAM, our grassroots advocacy network.

Remain engaged and advocate for policies that prioritize mental health and well-being. Stay tuned for updates on the Access MFTs bill and continue supporting efforts to enhance mental health care accessibility in Illinois.
