Advancing Licensure Portability: Access MFTs Initiative Sees Success in Arizona & Virginia House Committees

AAMFT’s Access MFTs initiative achieved a significant milestone as bills supporting licensure portability successfully passed out of House committees in Arizona and Virginia.

In Arizona, HB 2114, led by Representative Julie Willoughby, garnered an 8-2 vote in the Health and Human Services committee. Meanwhile, in Virginia, HB 329 secured unanimous support in both the Health Professions subcommittee and the Health and Human Services committee under the leadership of Health and Human Services Chairman Delegate Mark Sickles. Both advancements mark a crucial step towards enhanced portability within the state.

These committee approvals signify a noteworthy advancement for the MFT profession, emphasizing the importance of licensure portability. Beyond the legislative successes, licensure portability enables MFTs to practice seamlessly across state lines, addressing unique challenges and improving mental health accessibility.
