Benjamin E. Caldwell, PsyD
Ben has made a career out of changing the rules. In his advocacy work with the California Division of AAMFT, he contributed language to the state's first-in-the-nation ban on reparative therapy for minors -- a bill that became a model for more than a dozen other states that have since enacted similar laws. In his clinical work as a licensed marriage and family therapist, he helps couples restore and redefine their relationships by carefully examining the rules and roles that guide their interactions. In his teaching for California State University Northridge, he helps graduate students understand not only the legal and ethical rules guiding our work, but also the process of changing them when necessary.
Now, in his role as Education Director for SimplePractice Learning, he is reshaping our expectations and experiences of online continuing education, offering unique and advanced content that can't be found anywhere else. He served on the task force that developed changes to the AAMFT Code of Ethics in 2012, edited the User's Guide to the 2015 AAMFT Code of Ethics, led the workgroup that developed Best Practices in the Online Practice of Couple and Family Therapy, and served a three-year term on the AAMFT Ethics Committee.
