Please join Cheryl Donald of Brooklyn Marriage and Family Therapy, PLLC and John Carroll of Equity Therapy, PLLC as they share their respective journeys into private practice and how their strategic approaches to business management have resulted in thriving group practices. Each practice reaches non-traditional and historically marginalized consumers of psychotherapy, while simultaneously creating professional growth opportunities for MFTs in New York State. The session will conclude with an interactive discussion between the presenters and the audience..

About the Presenters:

Cheryl Donald, MA, MBA, LMFT is a New York State Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Life Coach, and Healthcare Executive who has spent two decades working with public health providers to improve their operating and clinical systems, manage performance outcomes, and reduce health disparities in their communities. In 2013, Cheryl founded Brooklyn Marriage & Family Therapy, PLLC, a private psychotherapy practice, as a vehicle to fuse her knowledge of the business of healthcare with her passion for providing mental health services. John Carroll of Equity Therapy, PLLC After a successful career as a Broadway dancer and writer, John redirected his passion and creativity to be of service to the community as a psychotherapist. John earned a BFA in Dance from the Juilliard School and a Master’s in Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercy College. John started Equity Therapy, a private practice in New York City in 2019 and is a steering committee member at The Institute for Human Identity, the nation's oldest LGBTQ+ affirming therapy site. John has written for The Huffington Post, The Advocate, Queerty.com, and has been featured in Redbook, Playbill.com, Them Magazine and on NBC LX. John has provided mental health services for such Broadway shows as Hadestown, Ain't Too Proud and Dear Evan Hansen. John has experience working with the LGBTQ+ community, performing artists, as well as with individuals and couples navigating open relationships, polyamory, and other non-traditional sexual expressions in a sex-positive atmosphere.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations to any paid event and any subsequent request for refund must be made in writing no later than 15 days prior to the start of the event. Upon cancellation you have the right to request that your fee (in full) be held (for up to one year) and used toward another event registration from this same AAMFT Network. If you prefer a refund, cancellations made more than 45 days before the event will receive a 75% refund. Cancellations made between 44 and 15 days before the event will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be offered within 14 days of the event.
