Description
OAMFT was established in 1974 as an Ontario division of AAMFT and served as a voice in Canada for 50 years, for therapists passionate about working systemically with Couples and Families. Upon its dissolution in 2024, the OAMFT board and members decided to continue their legacy by continuing to support students interested in equipping themselves for this important field of work.
Criteria
• Be a resident of Ontario.
• Be a Student Member or Professional Member of AAMFT, or a Student Member or Professional Member of a professional association affiliated with a College recognized by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (“CRPO”).
• Provide proof of enrollment in a graduate or postgraduate program recognized by the CRPO, or enrollment in a program set out below while working towards a systemic-focused regulatory College in Ontario, such as: College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (“CRPO”), College of Nurses of Ontario, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, College of Psychologists of Ontario, and Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. These programs include but are not limited to:
I. Master of Arts in Clinical Counselling Program at Tyndale University;
II. Master of Divinity in Clinical Counselling Program at Tyndale University;
III. Master of Relational and Family Therapy Program (formerly called the Couple and Family Therapy Program) at the University of Guelph;
IV. Couple and Family Therapy Program at St. Paul’s University; and
V. any other such programs that are accepted by CRPO.
• Proof that the applicant is in good standing in the applicant’s academic program in the form of a transcript.
• Submit of one (1) or more letters of recommendation from a professor or placement supervisor speaking to the applicant’s professional character and ethical excellence in an academic or practice environment. A detailed personal statement (500 words max) describing:
o How a scholarship award of $1,500.00 CAD would impact the applicant; and
o A response to the following prompt: “How do you see yourself making a difference in the field of couple and family therapy in Ontario?”
Required Materials
All self-nominations require a letter of recommendation to be submitted with materials.
Award
The award consists of:
• A cash award of $1,500 (CAD) per recipient.
• An engraved plaque presented at an AAMFT event (virtual or in person).
