SCAMFT Fall Mini-Conference

When:  Oct 21, 2022 from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  AAMFT South Carolina

Join us on an exploration of the supervisory experience; including developing effective goals, multicultural competency, and awareness of ethical guidelines.

The goal of this event is to engage supervisors and other participants in reflection on and exploration of the supervisory process. This workshop will be interactive and experiential with guiding questions for discussion. Participants will hopefully leave with a clearer understanding and ability to describe their own model and style of supervision. Supervisees who may be attending will gain a deeper understanding of their process in utilizing supervision to develop their clinical skills and ground themselves in their foundation of use of self in both psychotherapy of all kinds and in benefiting from supervision in their professional development. One presenter will be sharing her own model and process for supervision which has primarily occurred in a private practice setting. There will be a discussion of the impact of clinical setting and environment on the provision of supervision.
6 Supervision Hours approved for LPC, LMFT, and Social Work in South Carolina.
This event is approved through AAMFT. Please verify with your state licensing board as to whether AAMFT approved events are applicable for your license in your state.

Meet our Speakers: Ginger Culbertson & Danny Garnett
Ginger Culbertson, MSW, LMFT, LISW-CP, LPC-S is a 1982 graduate of New York University School of Social Work. Born in South Carolina, she has worked in the mental health field since 1975 when she worked with children and families at Marshall I. Pickens Children's Program in Greenville, SC. She attended Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA to study in one of the earliest certificate programs in Marriage and Family Therapy, however when the head of the department died, she changed course to study Clinical Social Work. Upon graduating from NYU, she discovered that 1983 was the first year that AAMFT would no longer accept an MSW to become a full member of the organization. So, after moving back to South Carolina, she pursued the necessary coursework and supervision to become a Full Member of AAMFT. She served on the SCAMFT Board as a Student Associate Member in the late 1980s. When licensure was created in SC, she became licensed as an LMFT. She is currently a Clinical Diplomate in AAMFT and most recently served on the SCAMFT Board just before the structural changes were enacted.
She credits her own development as a marriage and family therapist to the years of training and workshops she experienced in SCAMFT and has gratitude for the world-class training that this organization has provided over the past 4 decades. She gives special acknowledgment to Howard Waddell and Leah Lake for the invaluable supervision received from them as well as from the leaders of this state's organization, most notably, Dr. Jim Rentz and Dr. Russell Haber.

Danny Garnett, M.Div and D. Min has served in the field of counseling since 1985.  He has served as counselor, clinical manger, director in different clinical settings and is experienced is working with insurance companies, EAPs and also doing workshops and retreats for marriage and spiritual retreats and spiritual growth.

When I work with clients, I focus on each person’s value as a human being.  Everyone is of equal value.  I also focus in the area of helping each person share their life challenges and struggles with the focus on helping each client learn and download new skills to cope with life struggles,  depression, anxiety,  relational issues and how not to give up no matter what life challenges us to face. It is important for each person to know that they have a mission in life. Clients' Individual spiritual faith is a resource as clients are open to resourcing this aspect of their lives.
In addition to holding multiple licenses, (LPC, LPC-S, LMFT, LMFT-S) Danny is an AAMFT Clinical Fellow and AAMFT Approved Supervisor.
