Robert Marsden (Monty) Knight retired as pastor (1994-2010) of Charleston’s historic First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to establish Monty Knight Counseling. He was previously the founding director of the Dorchester County Mental Health Clinic (1975-1990) and maintained a private pastoral counseling practice with the physicians’ group, Summerville Family Practice Associates (1976-1994).
He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, a Master of Divinity degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.
Dr. Knight is credentialed as a Psychotherapist of The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) and a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). He is also a Supervisor for Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists in South Carolina.
A retired adjunct graduate professor of marriage and family therapy at Webster University’s Charleston Campus, he previously taught in the graduate program in clinical counseling at The Citadel.
