Providing Quality Care to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Patients: An Introduction

When:  Apr 24, 2020 from 01:30 PM to 03:30 PM (ET)
Associated with  AAMFT South Carolina

In this two hour webinar presented by Dr. Alex Karydi, participants will learn ways to provide affirming and inclusive health care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, or LGBT, patients. LGBTQ populations must navigate the typical challenges of life while also managing the social stigma associated with their emerging sexual and gender minority identities. As a result, many LGBT individuals are at higher risk for certain behavioral and emotional issues, homelessness, victimization, and suicide. This module discusses the unique health and developmental challenges of LGBT populations, and describes ways to address these issues in the clinical setting. Through sensitive, confidential communication, clinicians can become a vital source of support for this vulnerable population.

Based on the content of the session, participants will be able to

  • Describe health disparities faced by LGBT people.
  • Explain the importance of effective communication to provide affirming care for LGBT patients.
  • Practice using terms and principles in case scenario examples.
2 CE's approved for LPC and LMFT in SC and will be submitted for NC approval. You will receive a link to the Zoom webinar in your confirmation and reminder emails.
