“Queer, Committed, Couples of Color: Clinical Considerations”

When:  Apr 7, 2023 from 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM (ET)

Description

In this presentation, attendees will learn about common challenges faced by couples in which either one or both members identifies as queer and from an ethnic/racial minority status. Couples with complex, multiple intersectional identities benefit from more in-depth explorations of the ways in which their assumptions of unwritten relationship rules and expectations of one another impact the experience of their love. Strategies to help anchor complex conversations and common relationship concerns for these unique couples will be presented and discussed.

Learning Objectives

After this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the components of the DEEP framework for attuning intercultural couples
  2. Identify ways in which layers of intersectionality can “stack” and cause distress, as well as ways to alleviate that distress
  3. Understand when to consult, refer, or encourage client to connect with their larger community to supplement therapeutic work

Continuing Education

2 hours of continuing education are available. Instructions to obtain CE will be sent in your confirmation and reminder emails. A session code will be provided during the event.
