3 CEU Workshop
This 3-hour training aims to provide attendees with an understanding of diversity, equality, and inclusion as applicable to marriage and family therapy. We will look at core issues related to these subjects and examine applications in both systemic and individual contexts.
Learning ObjectivesParticipants will:
- Understand the difference of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Understand how both personal biases and institutional inequalities contribute to structural racism
- Learn skills for managing instances of implicit biases in one’s professional and personal interactions
- Develop skills to counteract unconscious bias within the organization
- Lean to implement inclusion measures in the workplace
- Examine how multiple oppressed identities interact to create overlapping and compounding systems of disadvantage
- Understand power and privilege
- Support the building of solidarity with others through understanding the complexity of multiple and intersecting social identities held by self and others
- Understand how working with various marginalized groups can impact work within organization
Presenters:
Tanisha Johnson, M.A. Business Administration
Currently an Exeter, NH resident, Tanisha was raised in New Jersey and spent much of her adulthood in Pennsylvania. Tanisha has a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Tanisha currently is the Child and Family Services Director for Community Action Partnership of Strafford County. Tanisha has over 10 years of nonprofit management within community service, youth programs, mental health, and wellness services.
As a mother, her passion has always been around empowerment and activism and this ranges from feminism, racial and social justice, and youth services.
In July 2020, Tanisha co-founded the Black Lives Matter Seacoast Chapter. BLM’s mission is to dismantle anti-Blackness, fight against racial injustices and police brutality.
Tanisha also serves on the Racial Unity Team Board as Vice Chair of the Board along with the Program Chair for the organization. The Racial Unity Team is a racial justice organization that identifies and works to dismantle systemic and individual racism. The Racial Unity Team facilitates these changes by working with government, schools, businesses, and their communities.
One of her favorite quotes that sums up her career and life is, to quote Sojourner Truth (1851):
If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down all alone, these women together ought to be able to turn it back and get it right side up again! And now they is asking to do it, the men better let them.
Kevin Pajaro-Mariñez, M.A. Student Affairs Administration
Kevin Pajaro-Mariñez (he/him/his) is a first-generation Black Latino with Colombian and Dominican roots. He was born in Queens, NY, but was raised in the wonderful city of Providence, RI. Kevin attended the University of Rhode Island where he earned his bachelors in Communication Studies. Thereafter, he attended Michigan State University where he earned his Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration. Currently, Kevin serves as the inaugural Assistant Director for Equity and Inclusion at Phillips Exeter Academy, an independent school located in Exeter, NH. Outside of his professional work, Kevin founded a community-based reading group called the Black Men’s Reading and Reflection Group (BMRRG) where Black men come together to think more expansively about masculinity. He enjoys dancing bachata and salsa, collecting socks, and reading.
