Join Jean McLendon and Regina Taggart for an engaging and experiential introduction to the Satir Growth Model (SGM), a systems approach to therapy that supports individual, couple and family change. Kelly Toney, LCSW, will also be apprenticing with them during this event.
This presentation will explore core fundamentals of the Satir Growth Model, including the importance of staying congruent in the midst of change and the impact of stress on internal experience and relationships. Participants will deepen their understanding of the coping stances and how these adaptive survival responses shape communication patterns in therapeutic settings.
The workshop will also highlight Virginia Satir’s Five Freedoms as a framework for fostering choice, authenticity, and emotional safety in clinical work. Practical tools for strengthening self-esteem and exploring family-of-origin influences will be introduced, offering therapists concrete ways to integrate Satir principles into everyday practice.
Through discussion, reflection, and applied examples, participants will gain insights into how the Satir Growth Model supports resilience, connection, and lasting change for individuals, couples, and families.
