Dr. Henry will present clinical strategies for treating Black couples from the lens of the Integrative Systemic Therapy (IST) framework and using an innovative mo del called Integrative Culinary Therapy (ICT). Due to the history of Black people in the U.S. and the distinct multigenerational transmission of culture and identity in the Black community, rationale will be established for culturally informed interventions to be a sound approach for treatment. Dr. Henry will provide relevant sociocultural information which highlights the unique coupling habits of this marginalized population, as well as an overview of IST and ICT. Issues to be covered include contextual nuances, Self of the Therapist considerations, sociohistorical information, and relevant empirical research data. In going beyond theory, attendees will be equipped to apply these interventions in their future clinical practice. Considerations for practitioners and possible future topics for research will also be discussed.
