The Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity

Session Summary: Camille Lafleur, PhD moderates as panelists discuss the importance of the Black family in American history and explore representation and diversity in the therapy room, relationships, media, and in conversation about mental health.

Camille Lafleur, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Oklahoma Baptist University and is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. She has clinical and supervisory experience working in community mental health, private practice, and academic settings. She served on the advisory committee with the Kansas Behavioral Regulatory Board as well as serving with both the Kansas and Oklahoma Associations for Marriage and Family Therapists. 



 

Dr. George James, LMFT, counsels people on how to overcome everyday relational struggles so they can build successful connections in love, family and career. With a practical approach to relationships and life, Dr. James helps bring success within reach of those he influences.



 

 

Joslyn Armstrong, Ph.D., received her doctorate in marriage and family therapy from Florida State University. She was an AAMFT Minority Fellowship alumnus in 2016. She is an assistant professor in the marriage, couple, & family therapy program at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

 

Dr. Michael Lee Cook is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) whose special interest is Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) and its extensions and applications to individuals, families, and organizations. He is the proprietor of Micah Counseling Services offering counseling, coaching, consulting, and supervision.

Dr. Porshia Cunningham has a passion for all families, especially blended or interracial/cultural homes. She nurtures the love, growth, and stability in your most precious relationships, and attunes to cultural influences and resources.
