SCAMFT: Guiding the Guides: Supervision and Ethics for MFTs

When:  Fri, Oct 16, 2026 from 09:00 AM to 04:30 PM (ET)
Clinical supervision and ethical practice sit at the center of competent, safe marriage and family therapy (MFT) service delivery, yet many practicing supervisors and clinicians receive limited structured continuing education on how these areas intersect. Supervisors are increasingly asked to prepare supervisees who trained in a mix of virtual and in-person MFT programs, to navigate ethical dilemmas that arise inside the supervisory relationship itself, and to maintain documentation and boundary practices that meet both AAMFT ethical standards and South Carolina licensure requirements. At the same time, all MFTs — supervisors and frontline clinicians alike — carry an ongoing duty to recognize and respond to suicide risk in the families and individuals they serve. This full-day online workshop addresses these needs in three connected parts: Clinical Supervision: A three-hour deep dive into the models, structure, and ethics of clinical supervision, including the impact of virtual MFT education on supervisee development. Applied Ethics: A two-hour segment covering dual relationships, documentation and record-keeping, and work with children and families. Suicide Prevention: A one-hour segment on suicide prevention and the ethical and legal duties that accompany it. The program is designed to give supervisors, supervisor candidates, and clinicians practical frameworks, current standards, and case-based tools they can apply immediately in practice.
