The Essential of Playing for Keeps

When:  Feb 19, 2021 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)

Join AAMFT as we honor Black History Month!

AAMFT and Margins to Center: Cultural Connections Among C/MFTs are proud to honor Black History Month through a new free series focusing on The Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity.

Compassionate Love practice offers a shift in our systemic interventions and support to black children and adolescents at this time of mass trauma and healing. The transmission of mass trauma effects through generations, communities, and time affects evolutionary and transitional pathways (link between past and present) of the oppressed (Landau, Mittal, & Wieling, 2008). In the world of black children and adolescents, the physical, emotional, and loving dimensions of play are integrated through relationships. MFT practitioners can play hard with openness, vulnerability, and creativity by bringing out their humanity for true healing connections. Focusing on the positive core of their clients help them link their ancestral past of resilience to their current and future hopes, while expanding both their consciousness and the one of the healers.

I will share key strategies to facilitate practitioners compassionate love practice including:

  • Strategic Appreciative interventions to integrate compassionate love practice into racial trauma work.
  • Integration of the 5 elements of Appreciative Inquiry and compassionate love
  • Best practices to introduce compassionate love practice to your clients
