The Couples and Intimate Relationships Topical Interest Network is thrilled to present the hosts of the Attached podcast for an exclusive live recording event of their show followed by a Q&A from the audience. This is a free event, and we invite anyone interested to join, experience the approachable way these hosts translate science into easy to apply terms, and have some fun along the way. The event will have three segments. First, we will talk about pop culture events that inform how we think about relationships. Next, we take a deep dive into a new academic article and talk about its relevance to practice. Finally, we discuss advice on social media and if it is good, bad, or both!
The Attached podcast is about the loved ones we’re attached to and the good, the bad, and the ugly advice about those relationships that maybe we shouldn’t be attached to. The hosts of Attached want to share ways to enhance your relationships and debunk bad relationship advice using science. Their mission is to make relationship science approachable and relatable by discussing relationships in pop culture and breaking down academic research into usable information.

Attached Podcast Hosts
Patricia N. E. Roberson, Ph.D.
Dr. Robesron is faculty in the College of Nursing out of the University of Tennessee. When she is not obsessively watching romcoms or the latest period drama, she teaches graduate statistic courses and leads a team of research students from psychology, public health, and nursing. Her research focuses on how marriages and families impact health for low-income and rural populations. Ongoing projects include the role of these close relationships on diabetes management for families in rural Appalachia and how to improve the close relationships for pain management among breast cancer patients living in Appalachia.
Sesen Negash, PhD., LMFT
Dr. Negash is an associate professor and director in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at San Diego State University (SDSU). She is also co-director of the Center for Achieving Black Wellness and Anti-Racist Education at SDSU. She earned her Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy (MFT) from Florida State University and a master’s degree in child development and family studies from Purdue University Northwest. Dr. Negash is a licensed MFT, a clinical fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and an approved supervisor with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and AAMFT. Her program of research examines close relationships and barriers to family therapy post-incarceration, as well as the interpersonal implications of infidelity and pornography on monogamous dating relationships.
Sarah Woods, Ph.D., LMFT
Dr. Woods is a co-host of Attached and an Associate Professor and Director of Behavioral Health at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she teaches in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist, TEDx speaker, and researcher who studies how family relationships get under our skin to impact our physical health. Sarah’s research dovetails with her award-winning focus on mental health advocacy, as well as her emphasis on the craft of teaching and supervising developing therapists. To this end, she recently co-edited the book Case Studies in Couple and Family Therapy: Through the Lens of Early Career Professionals (Routledge).
