EVENT DESCRIPTION

The Couples and Intimate Relationships Topical Interest Network invites you to join us for a webinar event with Caroline Bernhardt-Lanier, an Imago Advanced Clinician and Workshop Presenter. The webinar will be worth 2 CE credits. Caroline Bernhardt-Lanier will introduce us to Imago Relationship Therapy, a relational paradigm that synthesizes attachment theory, object relations theory, developmental psychology, transactional analysis, and behavioral change techniques to help couples transform conflict into lasting connection. Through a safe and structured dialogical process, Imago therapists support couples in shifting from blame and reactivity to empathy and understanding. In this experiential overview of Imago, you will learn the basic assumptions of Imago theory, become familiar with some specific interventions, and get a taste of the Imago dialogue.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand the neurobiological and emotional effects of the Imago Dialogue on couples.
  2. Describe several strategies to use in couples therapy to calm reactivity and create safety.
  3. Facilitate an appreciation dialogue between a couple.
