DAY 1: Dr. Lauren Day, LPC, CED-S, will be presenting on the basic theoretical tenants of Structural Family Therapy and Strategic Family Therapy. Integration of components from both theories will be explored for treating clients/families where eating disorders, substance use, self-harm behavior, and/or personality disorders exist. The program will discuss how such behaviors are often a form of communication within the family system and an attempt to meet an emotional or interpersonal attachment need. Clinicians will be given insight into how to conceptualize such cases and practical interventions for understanding a systemic approach to addressing treatment planning and clinical mediation.

Learning Objectives:
-Participants will be able to identify core tenants of Strategic Family Therapy and Structural Family Therapy as they relate to treating complex symptomology such as treating clients/families where eating disorders, substance use, self-harm behavior, and/or personality disorder exist.
-Recognize how various complex disorders can be attempting to communicate and meet a need within the family system.
-Learn to demonstrate an understanding of how to implement treatment interventions utilizing a Strategic and Structural blended approach for symptom reduction and positive
-Ability to understand the tenants of attachment needs as a motivator for adaptive and maladaptive behavior within the family system
-Learn to identify common family roles that exist when working with the identified patient presenting with addictive behaviors or complex symptomology

DAY 2: Patricia Dobbratz, JD, LMFT will provide attendees with increased competency regarding ethical decision-making. Common ethical dilemmas such as mandated reporting obligations, dual relationships, and clinical documentation will be addressed along with the emerging ethical considerations presented by the increased utilization of telehealth services and social media. Attendees will have the opportunity to review and apply relevant codes of ethics, rules, laws, and ethical decision-making models.

Learning Objectives:
-Participants will be able to identify and become familiar with sources of behavioral health ethical obligations  (ethical codes, state rules, statutes,etc)
-Participants will understand and practice utilizing ethical decision-making models
-Participants will gain knowledge regarding ethical considerations and mandated reporting
-Participants will be able to identify common ethical considerations related to technology and social media and how to avoid such concerns
