Mr. Watkins will additionally provide a one-hour consultation via Zoom each month, for three consecutive months, following the training. Consultation dates/times to be determined.
Presenter: Tony Watkins, MA, LMFT (AL & KY)
Tony is a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Alabama and Kentucky. Tony is an AAMFT clinical fellow and AAMFT approved clinical supervisor. Tony is the clinical director of the masters in Marriage and Family Therapy program at Campbellsville University. Tony also provides clinical services through his private practice, Comprehensive Counseling Solutions, LLC, https://comprehensivecounselingsolutions.org/, located in Arab, AL. Tony utilizes his seventeen-plus years of clinical experience providing support for clients with suicidal ideation, couples with conflicted relationships, adolescents and adults with varying relationship, mental health and substance abuse disorders and children with behavioral problems.
As a trainer and consultant, Tony is a Master Trainer for Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR). Tony has provided AMSR training to thousands of mental health professionals and as a Master Trainer and provides T4T's to train new trainers. Tony consults with communities and organizations to create suicide-safer communities and provides training for professionals and non-professionals across the county.

DAY 1 - June 28th, 2022

Learning Objectives:
- Based on the content of the session, I am able to manage reactions related to suicide and maintain a collaborative, non-adversarial stance.
- Based on the content of the session, I have acquired the skills to address potential conflicts between a clinician’s goal to prevent suicide and maintain a client’s safety and a client’s goal to eliminate psychological pain via suicidal behavior.
- Based on the content of the session, I have gained an understanding of the definitions and language used when talking about suicide, as well as the data that is relevant to addressing suicide in treatment populations including risk and protective factors, warning signs, and precipitating factors.
- Based on the content of the session, I am able to identify key points in treatment when a suicide assessment should occur, the type of information to gather to inform the assessment, and ways to build trust and thus elicit key information about the client’s risk of suicide.

- Based on the contents of this session, I am able to synthesize assessment information into a risk formulation that will help inform next steps in treatment.
- Based on the contents of this session, I am able to use evidence-based suicide prevention interventions based on a formulation of the client’s suicide risk.
- Based on contents of this session, I am able to understand which evidence-based treatments and suicide prevention interventions to use with clients based on their level of acuity.
- Based on the contents of this session, I am able to document the work you do with a client, Risk Formulation, Safety-Planning, actions agreed to and rejected by the client, etc., is critical to ensuring clear communication with the client and central persons, as well as, protecting the provider from civil claims.
- Based on the contents of this session, I am able to have conversations related to safety planning, contingency planning, and means counseling interventions.
