What requirements are there to be able to volunteer?
Volunteers must be AAMFT student members in good standing. Training is given on-site, so no prior experience is necessary. You must be able to attend the conference in its entirety and be able to arrive in time to attend a mandatory training session on Wednesday, October 4th at 4:00 p.m. We are looking for approximately 150 student members who are interested in networking with fellow student members, going "behind-the-scenes” to learn the aspects of running a successful conference, and meeting presenters and long-time members of AAMFT all while attending sessions and building on their knowledge as a future Marriage and Family Therapist.

How many student volunteers are needed? Approximately 150 student members will be selected as part of the volunteer program. All volunteers are selected on a first come, first served basis. Once the program is full we will start a waiting list in the event that a student must cancel out of the program.

What, if any, expenses are volunteers responsible for? You are responsible for your own travel expenses (airfare, hotel, meals, etc.). Your full conference registration fees, including the Thursday Institutes, are waived. There is a $100.00 non-refundable application fee that is due at the time your application is submitted.

How many hours are volunteers expected to work? While this will vary according to the nature of your assignment, most volunteers will work approximately 14 – 18 hours over the course of the 4-day conference.

What job assignments are volunteers given? There are a number of different tasks that can be assigned to volunteers. You may be assigned to work in conference workshops helping to collect session tickets, help participants with the online evaluation form and checking audio visual equipment. Other volunteers will be assigned to work in the AAMFT exhibit hall.

Are volunteers able to attend their preferred conference workshops? We will make every effort to assign you to work at sessions that are of interest to you, but there may be a time that you are assigned to a conference session that needs coverage that was not one of your selected choices. This, however, only happens occasionally and is done only when necessary.

What is the cancellation policy? Cancellations should be directed to ahunt@aamft.org as soon as possible so that we can fill your position with a student from the waiting list. Please be aware that the $100.00 application fee is non-refundable.

How do I register as a student volunteer? Click the Register button on this page. After confirming your name and address, select "Student Volunteer" on the next page and proceed through the registration steps.

 

Space is very limited for this program, so any interested student members that can agree to the above conditions should submit an application as soon as possible. Students that are not members of the association must complete a membership application and receive an AAMFT member ID before applying to volunteer. We cannot hold slots while membership applications are being processed.
