    The Emerging Professionals network launched this year, providing free programming and resources for members at the beginning stages of their career. If you are a student, pre-clinical fellow, or clinical fellow in the first five years, join us to network with your peers, or learn how being a part of this group will benefit your career growth and professional development.   • Research Discussions (Thursday through Saturday): FREE

    Hear from poster presenters on the latest research in our field. The posters, selected for their innovation and potential impact on the profession and policy decision makers, highlight the wonderful work being done to demonstrate marriage and family therapy as a viable treatment option on a macro-systemic level.   • Networking Luncheon- Knitting the Tapestry of Spirituality & Family Systems in Psychotherapy (Friday, 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.): $53

    Join Dr. Joseph B. Christopherson as he discusses the dynamics of integrating spirituality with family systems in the therapeutic process. He will explore the application of spirituality to cultural paradigms, families mores, beliefs, and rituals, and how to protect the integrity of sound psychotherapuetic practices while injecting spiritual principles into counseling sessions. He will also look at ways to avoid the tendency to manipulate or placate by using spiritual terms to influence client receptivity. Earn 1.5 hours of continuing education for attending.

  • COAMFTE Accreditation Networking (Friday, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.) FREE

COAMFTE-accredited programs and programs seeking accreditation are invited to join the Commission and the accreditation staff in an open discussion on accreditation-related issues. Programs are invited to share feedback on the implementation of Accreditation Standards Version 12 in their programs.

  • Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Social Hour (Friday, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.): FREE

This event will bring together Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Fellows from across the country along with mentors, advisory committee members, and program directors. The MFP seeks to increase the level of culturally competent doctoral level marriage and family therapists who provide mental health and substance abuse services to undeserved and minority populations. Attendees interested in research, training and practice in these areas or those interested in learning about how to get involved with the MFP are welcome to join us. Because AAMFT is YOUR organization, we invite members to attend the 2017 Annual Business Meeting and dialogue with the Association’s leadership. We will discuss the accomplishments of 2016, future changes and their impact on you, financial benchmarks, and Association news. Freely ask questions and express concerns related to business planning as we continue to focus on relevancy, innovation, and communication. Last year’s meeting was dynamic and engaging for members of all levels, as everyone is welcome to freely ask questions and express concerns relating to business planning.   • Queer Affirmative Caucus (Saturday, 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.): FREE

The purpose of the Queer Affirmative Caucus is to provide an open and inclusive space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and allied AAMFT members and affiliates to challenge discrimination, advance affirmative research, and develop supportive and affirmative clinical work with LGBTQI clients. 

  • Approved Supervision Network Reception (Saturday, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.): FREE

The Approved Supervision Network provides exclusive access to Approved Supervision resource and discussion. Open to current Approved Supervisors and Supervisors in training, join us for this networking reception to meet and connect. 

  • African American, Latino/a, Asian, Native American (AALANA) is Reunited! (Saturday, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.): FREE

In 2000, AAMFT members of color founded AALANA (African American, Latino/a, Asian, Native American) to promote critical dialogue related to clinical training and supervision, research, advocacy, and implementation of services to communities of color. AALANA members were quite active and became a strong support network to each other. However, formal activity dissipated as group members took various paths in their careers. In recent years, we have been approached by a growing number of members of color asking about the possibility of reviving the group and together identifying a new focus for collective action and networking. 

  • Foundation Reception: Meet Kim Phuc Phan Thi (Saturday, 6:45 – 7:45 p.m.): $50

Join the AAMFT Research & Education Foundation as it hosts keynote speaker Kim Phuc Phan Thi, the subject of an unforgettable image from the Vietnam War, who is dedicated to healing the wounds of war and furthering love, hope, and forgiveness. Proceeds benefit the AAMFT Research and Education Foundation.
